Can hobbies affect your work mentality?

Do you have hobbies outside of work? Some of us enjoy sightseeing others like to read books, but the question is how do hobbies affect you in the workplace? Take me for example; I have been playing football for over 10 years now; the past year has been a great success for me and my local team due to us winning two trophies.

Success is contagious and success from your hobbies can spread into your workplace; there’s no better feeling than winning on the weekend thus making the dreaded Monday not so bad!  Your mindset is you’ve had a successful weekend and you don’t want the ball to stop rolling; you start to feel more confident than ever and you realise your productivity levels increase in the workplace.

A positive mind will always play a big part in those who strive for success and this is why we need to keep ourselves occupied; hobbies can allow you to transfer your “feel good” attitude into your workplace. I’m a firm believer in everything you do, try to be the best you can be. You may find that your hobby allows you to be very competitive and by challenging yourself you’re able to reach maximum performance levels.

There is nothing wrong with having a competitive mindset, as long as you don’t let it get the better of you. A competitive mindset in a working environment is beneficial as it creates healthy competition amongst co-workers. To make things even more interesting, have an incentive for all employees to work towards; this competitive edge in the workplace should see productivity levels increase.

I’ve always found that being rewarded for your input that has resulted in a positive outcome is essential, whether you’re winning trophies at an awards ceremony or winning an incentive at work. It is always nice to be appreciated for your efforts. So what are you waiting for? Find the hobby that’s right for you and watch the positive impact it has on you in the workplace.
