How to write a diplomatic blog when the answer to this question is really quite simple. Here are the 3 most common mistakes we come across in the market when it comes to business’s not being serious about recruiting.
1. Cost – Companies want to do things cheaply
2. Many business leaders believe they are head hunters / capable recruiters
3. Some people simply do not understand the nucleus to their business is its people. If you have terrible staff do not expect to have a successful business
I am sure my points are ringing true to many people reading this blog, but often the same individuals are willing to make the same mistakes time and time again. As a business we recruit for many reasons but very recently we have taken on a new piece of work with a company who have recruited for the same position four times in 18 months – WOW! Finally they have decided it would be a good idea to get supported on this role (by a Head Hunter) but at what cost. They have already wasted hundreds and hundreds of pounds (not in recruiter fees but in salaries, training, productivity time etc) not to mention the man hours and the stress put upon others within the business.
The recruitment industry is a multi billion pound business – it is so for a very good reason. Yes there are horror stories – recruiters ripping off companies and the like, but doesn’t this happen in every industry?
I will use an accountant to balance the books, a dentist to look after my teeth and a supermarket to buy my groceries. I will not cut my own hair, nor will I try to castrate my own cat. Are you getting the point?
Work with the experts and expect an expert service in return. The next time you are looking for a member of staff do bear in mind the above. Recruitment done correctly and supported buy all involved can have some amazing consequences. Don’t let your company suffer and leave it to the experts.
