Financial Controller – FMCG – Hybrid

Job Title: Financial Controller

Location: Hybrid - North West & Yorkshire

Salary: £75,000 - £80,000 + package

The Financial Controller will report to the Finance Director and lead the Company’s accounting, reporting, controls and budgeting, ensuring financial accuracy and compliance. This is a key development role for a Finance Director of the future, requiring strong commercial acumen, leadership capability, and ambition.

Roles and Responsibilities

Management

  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Manage the balance sheet of the Company ensuring its assets are secure and its risks minimised.
  • Oversee and effectively manage the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organisational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives and delivering a first-class service to its stakeholders.
  • Work closely with outsourced functions, including Payroll & HR
  • Work closely with the Head of HR (UK) on financial related HR matters
  • Developing and maintaining external business relationships including banks and auditors etc, where appropriate.
  • Environmental, Social and Governance reporting for Head Office.
  • Insurance and facilities renewals and quotes.

Transactions

  • Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable.
  • Ensure that accounts receivables are collected promptly.
  • Process payroll in a timely manner.
  • Generate and send the commission reports.
  • Arrange for submission of P11d’s with the Payroll Bureau/ third parties.
  • Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed.
  • Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis, if appropriate.
  • Manage and minimise the Company’s risk to currency exposure.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts.
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.

Reporting

  • Issue timely and complete financial statements in accordance with Group timescales.
  • Coordinate the preparation of the statutory accounts and annual report.
  • Produce and manage the company cash-flow reporting to Group.
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics.
  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts statements in accordance with Group timescales.
  • Calculate variances from the budget/forecast and report significant issues to management.
  • Provide for a system of management cost reports.
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
  • Prepare and submit Group reports.

Compliance

  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit.
  • Comply with local and government reporting requirements, VAT and tax filings.
  • Notification in advance of any proposed changes which may affect GDP to the responsible person.

The job may involve carrying out additional tasks within your capability, in order to meet the needs of the business.

Essential Experience

  • Minimum of 5 – 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, alongside a recognised professional qualification (such as ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with a focus on day-to-day operations, cash flow forecasting, and managing the finance department.
  • Strong business acumen and business partnership skills.
  • Proactive in identifying and implementing changes to drive profitability.
  • The ability to challenge preconceptions, assumptions, and status quo.
  • Excellent numeracy skills & attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to build cross functional relationships.
  • ability to apply statistical concepts and derive insights from financial data.
  • Good written, presentation skills and excellent MS Office skills (Powerpoint/Excel).
