Our client, a leading player in the Personal Care and Performance Chemicals industries, is seeking an experienced Head of Sales to drive growth in their distribution and manufacturing operations. As part of an innovative and dynamic business, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the sales strategy and leading a high-performance sales team to exceed ambitious growth targets.

Roles and Responsibilities

As the Head of Sales for UK-based distribution and manufacturing, you will oversee all sales activities, manage a talented sales team, and strengthen key customer relationships. Your leadership will be essential in executing effective sales strategies and driving business development. This position involves significant external travel and periodic visits to the head office near London Heathrow Airport.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sales Strategy & Leadership
    • Develop and implement comprehensive sales strategies that align with the company’s objectives to drive revenue growth.
  • Forecasting & Planning
    • Forecast annual sales by territory, projecting volumes and profits for both existing and new products.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting
    • Analyse sales data to create actionable insights, identify new opportunities, and optimize sales processes.
  • Performance Reporting
    • Deliver detailed monthly performance reports to the Executive Management Team (EMT), providing insights on sales metrics and business progress.
  • Strategic Account Management
    • Cultivate and manage strategic customer relationships, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure customer success and satisfaction.
  • Field Engagement
    • Spend significant time in the field to foster relationships with key clients and drive sales initiatives.
  • KPI Optimisation
    • Focus on optimising working capital, improving key performance indicators (KPIs), and ensuring sales targets are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Collaboration with Marketing
    • Coordinate closely with the marketing team to ensure sales activities are aligned with promotional strategies and marketing campaigns.

Essential Experience

  • Proven Leadership
    • Demonstrated success as a Head of Sales or in a senior sales leadership role, with a track record of exceeding sales targets and driving business growth.
  • Industry Experience
    • 7-10 years of experience in customer-facing commercial roles, preferably within distribution or the personal care and performance chemicals sectors.
  • Educational Background
    • A BSc Degree in a related field such as Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other scientific disciplines.
  • Team Management
    • Extensive experience managing and developing high-performing sales teams.
  • Industry Knowledge
    • In-depth understanding of the Personal Care & Performance Chemicals market, including industry trends, customer needs, and competitive dynamics.
  • Financial Acumen
    • Strong background in performance reporting, budgeting, and financial processes to manage and track sales growth effectively.
