Role summary
Our client is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Sales Director to lead the UK sales team and manage a network of international sales agents. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the role will be responsible for developing and executing a growth-focused sales strategy, driving market share, and building long-term customer relationships.
This is a hands-on leadership role, balancing strategic oversight with direct customer engagement in both domestic and overseas markets. The role will lead the Sales Team in selling products in to the Utilities business’s and Major Contractors.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and own the company’s sales strategy for UK and international markets.
- Manage, mentor, and motivate a small UK-based sales team to deliver consistent growth.
- Oversee and support a network of international sales agents, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities with utility contractors, distributors, and government infrastructure projects.
- Maintain and expand relationships with existing key accounts.
- Work closely with the marketing and product development teams to align customer feedback with product innovation.
- Forecast sales performance and report regularly to the board on progress against targets.
- Negotiate major contracts, pricing structures, and long-term agreements.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and industry developments to inform business planning.
- Represent the company at trade shows, industry events, and customer site visits both in the UK and abroad.
Essential Experience
- Proven track record in senior sales leadership within manufacturing, engineering, or related industrial sectors.
- Experience selling capital equipment or technical products into utility, construction, or infrastructure markets would be desirable.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience managing both in-house teams and external agents/distributors.
- Commercially driven, with excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
- Able to work strategically while remaining hands-on with key customer relationships.
- Strong understanding of international sales processes, including export regulations and cultural business practices.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally as required.
- Degree in Business, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- Evidence of continued professional development in sales leadership or strategic management.
