Sector / BU Cluster Managing Director – (Building Materials, Mining, Minerals)

The Managing Director (MD) is accountable for implementing the Sector Strategy and for the overall operational and financial results of the companies in the sector. The incumbent carries out policies and programs that maximise profits and support the Group’s short- and long-term business interests.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Fosters and promotes a culture of performance, growth, and innovation among all business units, and implements initiatives and interventions to guarantee such a culture.

  • Sees that each Business Unit is staffed with competent key people who are capable of carrying their mission in achieving the overall Sector direction; responsible for the selection of key personnel and authorizes the employment, promotion, or termination of key members of management in coordination with the Group.

  • Establishes and implements performance standards for key areas of operations within assigned organizations (including, but not limited to, costing parameters, finance standards, and operational efficiency) and counsels and guides assigned Business Units to improve efficiency and achieve required performance standards.

  • Directs, coordinates, and supervises the activities of the Business Units to achieve the Sector’s goals and objectives, exercising authority as approved by the Group CEO.

  • Oversees the development and implementation of the sales and marketing strategies for the Business Units while ensuring proper synergies with other subsidiaries in the Group, and monitors sales performance accordingly.

  • Formulates medium- to long-range objectives aligned with the Group’s overall strategy and builds plans and programs for activities and growth in cooperation with the Heads of Business Units, overseeing their implementation.

  • Supports and facilitates Group initiatives to implement proper institutional frameworks and shared services that support Group growth, which may include strategy, finance, project/investment management, human resources and culture, change management, internal audit, and IT.

  • Ensures compliance and governance aligned with the Group’s oversight and monitoring functions and policies, as well as proper reporting and internal controls among the Business Units at various levels, while guaranteeing and fostering the full autonomy of such functions.

Essential Experience

  • Minimum 10 years’ commercial or general management experience.

  • At least 5 years in a senior management role with full budget/P&L responsibility and leadership

  • Proven experience in international organisations and multicultural environments; Middle East market experience is highly preferred.
